Chrome extensions are javascript programs that extend the capabilities of the chrome browser. There are many browser extensions you can download and use in your browser available in the chrome web store. In this guide you can learn how to create your own extensions that you can upload to the chrome web store as well.

You can download all kind of cool extensions from the chrome webstore. You can browser around to find some inspiration for your own project.

Extensions page#

Your chrome browser has an overview page where you can see and manage all your extensions. You will need this page, chrome://extensions, to load your own extensions.


A chrome extension consists of a manifest.json file that desicribes the setup of the extension and the files it uses. You can use user interfaces (like a popup), content scripts, options pages and service workers. All of these are written in javascript or html. These files are explained in more detail in the coming sections.
